Minimalist Poster

Based on the public data about foot traffic in Chicago libraries, I wanted to do something fun by creating a minimalistic poster using a treemap chart that shows the most visited Chicago public library.

At a glance, you can immediately tell which library is the most visited.

To add some interesting facts, I've added some callouts to the top 2 most visited libraries.

Background

My fascination with the grand libraries of Chicago, fueled by numerous insightful videos, inspired me to create this poster.

Design Process

It features a visually striking treemap chart illustrating the number of visitors each Chicago library branch received in February 2024. I began by using Microsoft Excel to construct the chart from the provided CSV file and then transformed it into a compelling design using Adobe Illustrator.

Result

With its sleek and minimalist style, the poster effectively communicates the data, enabling viewers to quickly identify the most popular library in Chicago at a glance. I imagine this poster printed and displayed at the Harold Washington Library, offering intriguing insights for visitors. What makes this poster especially engaging is its reliance on real data, ensuring that the information presented is both accurate and informative.
