AVALON Business Letter

Skills Used

  • Brand Development

  • Audience-Centric Writing

  • Empathetic Communication

  • Strategic Messaging

Background

Creating the brand kit and documentation for an invented company was an exhilarating project, drawing inspiration from Foxtrot.

AVALON, a 24/7 corner store cafe, is a business I fabricated, from brand kit to organization management.

While given the opportunity to promote our business idea to Shark Tank, we were ultimately rejected. This formal business letter addresses the negative news from an optimistic perspective to the team who worked hard to develop the pitch and marketing. It inspires the employees to continue putting their best selves forward.

Tools Used

  • Adobe Illustrator

  • Canva

  • Grammarly

Design Process

I designed the letterhead with Adobe Illustrator and crafted the logo using Canva. As I composed this letter, it was essential to choose my words thoughtfully, ensuring the optimistic tone resonated with the Planning and Development Team.

As a business owner, I understand that maintaining employee morale is crucial for sustaining productivity during tough times. My past experiences with receiving difficult news from employers shaped my approach.

Result

I carefully considered what made their communication effective and integrated those successful elements into my letter to inspire confidence and resilience among our team.

  • Audio Communication

  • Concise Messaging

  • Accessibility

  • Adaptability

  • Content Planning

Communication isn't always about writing letters and emails.

To keep employees engaged and updated with business operations, I created a short monthly podcast that employees can listen to. As an added accessibility, each podcast comes with a transcript.

While this podcast doesn't involve anyone, other podcasts feature executives and managers to engage in employee feedback and foster ideas.

Tools Used

  • Microsoft Word

  • AudioMass

Design Process

What sets this communication apart is its audio format,

complemented by a transcript for those who may prefer reading.

This approach ensures accessibility for everyone. I intentionally chose a conversational tone, steering clear of overly formal language, to foster a sense of relatability with employees. As an avid podcast listener myself, I drew inspiration from the engaging elements that resonate with me in other shows.

In crafting this podcast, I was keenly aware of the environments where employees would listen—whether on the company website or through a mobile app. Understanding this context is essential for ensuring the podcast effectively engages and resonates with our workforce.

Result

Although I lack professional audio engineering skills, I took the initiative to learn the basics needed to create this short podcast. The journey began with drafting a script, followed by recording audio segments, and finally, refining the transcript to align with the audio content. After delivery, I recognized that incorporating a second-person perspective could have enhanced the podcast’s impact.

AVALON Grant Proposal

Seeking to improve customer service and operation efficiency in the Phoenix location, I developed a grant proposal for the Arizona Commerce Authority (ACA) to fund the upcoming project.

This grant proposal successfully identifies how the grant will help AVALON achieve its vision while supporting ACA's values.

Background

This grant proposal seeks the Arizona Commerce Authority's (ACA) support in awarding AVALON a $5,000 grant to enhance job training in the Phoenix area.

Design Process

As my first endeavor in crafting a grant proposal, I undertook extensive research on how to create a compelling and concise business grant proposal. I focused on understanding my audience, the purpose of my message, and the significance it holds for both ACA and AVALON.

In my research, I explored ACA’s values to carefully choose words that resonate with its mission. I highlighted how granting AVALON this support would not only advance our objectives but also align with ACA's goals and priorities, maintaining a "you" attitude throughout.

Result

The proposal progressed through multiple drafts, revisions, and edits to ensure clarity and effectiveness, ultimately presenting a strong case for the grant that reflects AVALON's brand identity.
